Corporate History
1970
  • Entered US Telecommunications market with the introduction of a crossbar PBX product.
  • Subsequent development led to a family of digital PBXs that led the market for lodging industry telecommunications systems.
1980
  • North American R&D; capability was added in 1980.
  • Hitachi Telecom (USA) Inc. was incorporated 1987 as an expansion of the North American product development operation.
1990
  • In the late 1990s, Hitachi introduced the AMN5192 SONET product line, followed by the AMN6100 DWDM system, the AMN4100 Transmux, and the AMN7100 Lambda Terminal products. These products established Hitachi as a leader in ultra long haul 10Gbps optical transmission in North America. Global Crossing deployed a coast-to-coast network using these products and today the network operates as the second largest cross-country 10Gbps network in the United States.
2000
  • Hitachi entered the optical access arena in 2003, with BPON (Broadband Passive Optical Network) solutions.
  • Today, the company's GPON (Gigabit PON) system is deployed in multiple communities in the United States.
  • Salira begins development of the EPON platform.
  • In 2005, Hitachi Communication Technologies, Ltd. acquired Salira Systems, an EPON developer in Santa Clara, California.
  • Hitachi continues to innovate, and is currently developing 40Gbps and 100Gbps optical transport solutions.
  • In May 2008, Salira Systems introduced MW-PON, a CWDM-based multi-wavelength implementation of EPON.
  • In June 2008, Salira Systems introduced DePON, a DOCSIS-enabled application of EPON technology for use by cable TV operators.
  • In June 2008, Hitachi introduced the Node+ZeroTM RFoG module, allowing cable TV network operators to cost-effectively deliver services directly to subscribers over fiber optic cable.
  • By mid 2008 Salira has the largest EPON footprint in a U.S. MSO network.
  • Salira's EPON platform achieves MEF 9 & 14 Certification in 2008.
  • In April 2009, Hitachi Communication Technologies America, Inc. was formed by the merger of Hitachi Telecom (USA), Inc. and Salira Systems, with headquarters in Norcross, Georgia and R&D; facilities in Santa Clara.
  • In July, 2009, Hitachi Communication Technologies, Ltd. merged into Hitachi, Ltd. Hitachi Communication Technologies America, Inc. is now a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hitachi, Ltd.
  • HCTA opens an R&D; facility in Richardson, Texas to continue work on a Mobile Management Entity (MME) for the companies long term evolution (LTE) business.
