Fiber is a primary constraining factor in many access networks. Hitachi PON solutions maximize the utilization of this scarce commodity. PON uses only 1 strand to support up to 64 users in a point-to-multipoint topology. Downstream and upstream traffic is combined on this fiber. Point-to-point solutions for the same number of users require 128 fibers. In this configuration PON saves 127 fibers. CWDM solutions require more expensive optics to implement. PON also provides Layer 2 control of service profiles and OAM that is unavailable in CWDM platforms.
Any network where fiber is constrained should investigate the benefits of a PON solution. Hitachi's product scope and understanding of the economics of fiber deployments give us the insight to meet your needs.
