MW-PON builds on the advantages of EPON and multiplies them with the power of wave division multiplexing. This standards-based approach, pioneered by Salira can deliver 4Gbps up and downstream. 40Gpbs up and downstream implementations are coming soon that support up to 512 users on a single fiber. MW-PON integrates Coarse Wave Division Multiplexing (CWDM) technology with Gigabit Ethernet PONs to deliver 4Gbps symmetrical data rates through one fiber, effectively quadrupling the bandwidth of Salira's standard EPON systems. It is compatible with existing video delivery systems at 1550nm, so there is no interference with RF video delivered over the fiber network shared with the MW-PON system. This is achieved through Salira's innovative multi-wavelength technology while maintaining compliance with IEEE 802.3ah standards. The MW-PON ONU features an SFP-based PON port, designed for flexible installation, operation and maintenance. Salira's MW-PON platform is MEF-certified. We also provide a carrier-class EMS system that supports full FCAPS functionality and comprehensive fault management and isolation. MW-PON is designed to deliver all IP-based triple play applications. It offers high bandwidth and significantly increases end-user density.
MW-PON is compatible with IEEE 802.3av 10GePON on the same fiber. When 10 GePON becomes available, MW-PON can be upgraded to 50Gbps. IEEE and ITU standards are used in MW-PON so it is interoperable with the adjacent devices and metro aggregation equipment.
