D-Server

The DePON system enables cable operators to significantly increase the bandwidth levels supported for subscriber services by integrating EPON-based fiber networks into existing DOCSIS systems. A major component of DePON, the Salira D-Server is a workstation that contains the necessary software and utilities to emulate the management functions of a virtual DOCSIS Cable Modem Termination System (CMTS) and Cable Modems (CMs) when connected to a network of one or multiple aggregation switches, Salira Optical Line Terminals (OLTs), and subtending Optical Network Units (ONUS). The D-Server has two Ethernet ports for connection to the DOCSIS management network on one end and the OLT NMS interface on the other. Management functions of the D-Server include the following:

• Emulate DOCSIS-compliant SNMP agent
• Act as a plug-and-play controller for OLTs as they are added to the DePON network
• Submit requests on behalf of ONUs to the DOCSIS servers for IP address and configuration files
• Convert DOCSIS-format configuration files from the DOCSIS servers, reformat and forward them to the appropriate ONUs
• Host the Salira Command Line Interface (CLI) utility for monitoring and management of the DePON system
