AMN1220 GST-J

The AMN1220 GST-J is a hardened Optical Network Terminal (ONT) designed to be de-ployed on the exterior of a home or business. The GST terminates a single fiber from the central office or headend, and supports mul-tiple combinations of data, voice, and video services to the end user. The GST-J supplies an RF video interface via an F connector. A battery backup unit can be equipped to meet lifeline voice requirements.

The AMN1220 GST-J provides 2 data ports, each of which operates at 10BASE-T, 100BASE-TX, or 1000BASE-T rates. The second data port can be used for small business data applications, or when deployed by a power utility, for automated meter reading and other utility monitoring and control functions. For small businesses, the Gigabit Ether-net capability provides robust bandwidth for large file transfer and multi-user applications. For all applications, the Gigabit Ethernet rate offers future-proofing against increased demand for higher speeds for applications such as High Definition IPTV.

Both IP and RF video are supported on the GST-J. Some service providers use both: RF video for "basic cable" service and IP video for VoD (Video on Demand) and PPV (Pay per View) applications that involve significant interactivity between the user and the headend. The AMN1220 GST-A supports "legacy" triple play, in which all services arrive at the residence via the single fiber network infrastructure, but are converted to their legacy delivery media within the GST. Thus, existing house wiring is used to provide video over coaxial cable, POTS (Plain Old Telephone Service) voice over Category 3 or lower twisted pair cabling and data over Category 5 cabling.

Highlights

  • Interfaces to support triple play services
    • POTS voice: 2 ports
    • Data: 2 ports (10BASE-T/100BASE-TX/1000BASE-T), independently manageable
    • RF video (54-870MHz): 1 port
    • Supports IP video through the data port (IP video set top box or gateway required)
  • Gigabit Ethernet interface supports full rate GbE regardless of packet size
  • B+ transceiver optics are standard for maximum reach
